A heritage tour is a discovery of your past; an exploration of your culture, your forebearers, and their stories of strength, joy and achievement, loss and grief. A heritage tour is a connection to your roots.
Katzrin Village offers you an experiential connection. As a living history site, we offer hands-on encounters with Jewish life in ancient times. We learn how people made a living, family life, and ancient customs and culture by participating in activities that reflect the real experience.
At Katzrin Village, you can don traditional garb for a start, to blend into the scenery and for a great photo opportunity!
Visit the ancient Israeli home for a full picture of home life in Katzrin Village.
There is a small, hand-operated stone mill in the kitchen that ground flour daily for bread. Red peppers are hung out to dry, to be crushed as seasoning when needed. Examine the storage room, packed with a myriad of equipment used for tending the fields and harvesting. Explore the layout and furnishings, taking note of the various features, such as the olive oil lamps set on ledges for lighting.
Our guide will tell stories and give a full tour of the house.
Olive oil production was a thriving industry in northern Israel and key to the community’s survival.
Discover the traditional olive press and during the fall, take part in the olive Oil Experience. Press olives for oil and learn about the oil making process.
Of course, the jewel of this village is the ancient synagogue. Even today, we can see the great care taken in building this communal sanctuary. Notice the difference in the masonry between what was used for the synagogue and contrast it with the methods used for the rest of the village.
The original strong, massive stone entryway is made up of meticulously cut slabs of whole basalt stone, that withstood earthquakes, war, and strife.
The mosaic flooring, carefully carved pillars, and pastoral setting imbue a rich history and the holiness of centuries of prayer. The inspirational setting has resulted in many couples choosing to celebrate their wedding in Israel between the walls of the synagogue.
