Cob is an ancient building technique, using natural material made from soil, water, and straw. It is still used today in construction around the world. This superior material is quite malleable for fashioning ornaments, and was vital in the building of mud ovens and houses, as well as sealing roofs from the winter rains and summer sun.
Working hands-on with cob teaches the importance of this skill in the village. You will learn how to create the cob with the right consistency for building or sculpting a keepsake to take home.
So roll up your sleeves and let’s get messy!
While your creation sets, pita-baking in a real cob oven is a perfect finish for your activity. Roll out the dough and bake a pita the traditional way over an open fire. Savour it dipped in olive oil and hyssop, letting the taste linger in your mouth.
For a variety of family and group activities at Katzrin Village, contact us for a specially designed visit focusing on your specific needs.
Participate in a seasonal activity, such as winemaking at the old-fashioned wine press, the annual, traditional wheat harvest where you can cut, thresh, and winnow the wheat as in ancient times, or an authentic olive oil experience at the ancient olive press.
Year-round activities include guided tours of the ancient village, musical nights, our unique Lantern Tour, and more!
