Spend the day at an open-air museum that brings history alive!
Katzrin Village, in the heart of the Golan Heights in northern Israel, dates back to 4 CE and offers a plethora of hands-on activities, tours, sites, sounds, and experiences.
Take your pick of one or more activities, ranging from one to three hours each.
For families and group tours, there is so much to see and do!
Springtime – Enjoy and appreciate ancient culture by participating in our authentic annual wheat harvest.
Cut, thresh, and winnow the wheat. Then enjoy a warm, tasty treat of whole wheat kernels cooked on a skillet and drizzled with honey for an original granola treat.
Team effort is essential, and the option of live musical accompaniment gives a boost to the spirited atmosphere.
Late Summer – Early Autumn – With cleaned, bare feet, crush grapes as the ancients did and make your own grape juice at the old-fashioned wine press! Our local vintner will assist by explaining the winemaking process. At the end, you get to go home with a small bottle of juice.
Autumn – Early Winter – Olive oil production was a significant industry. Press olives to make olive oil using the oldest working olive press in the country. Afterwards, you can bake pita over an open fire, enjoying the fresh, warm bread dipped in your own olive oil, topped with aromatic hyssop seasoning.
– Tour the Katzrin Village with an actor as your guide. Listen to interesting stories as they introduce you to their village and pay a visit the ancient Israeli home, where you can connect to the past as you listen to accounts of life, love, and community.
– Blend into this ancient setting by dressing up in traditional robes. This is always a fun experience and the perfect time for a photo opp!
– An evening Lantern Tour at the Katzrin Village is an experience you don’t want to miss. The beautiful, pastoral setting. Accompanied by the sound of soft music, you will walk through the village under the stars. At your last stop, you’ll enjoy listening to a wonderful story as you savor the taste of warm tea and cookies.
– Building with cob is a fantastic hands-on activity. Learn all about cob, an ancient building material, how it was used, and how people use it till today. Build an oven or sculpt it into something small to take back home.
– Pita baking! Roll out the dough in the open air and bake over an open fire. When ready, enjoy the heavenly taste of fresh, warm pita dipped in quality olive oil and fragrant hyssop seasoning.
If you wish to visit as a family and explore on your own, there is no need to make a reservation.
However, if you are a group of friends or a large family, we highly recommend that you reserve a fun and engaging activity that everyone can partake in. Order a group meal or Picnic in a Basket to enjoy with your family by the pomegranate grove.
