When you have a diverse group of people and you want to please everyone, Katzrin Village offers activities and tours that we all can relate to and enjoy. So, join hands and pay us a visit for an experience to remember!
Dress up in ancient attire to feel part of the surrounds!
Then take a village tour, where you will discover places such as the ancient Israeli home and the ancient synagogue. There you will learn about communal and family life in the village, appreciate the décor and architecture, and indulge in stories of the past. Stop by village features that demonstrate the ancient local industries, such as the traditional olive press, the old-fashioned grape press, and the Village Bakery.
You can grind wheat on small, hand-powered mill stones. Roll out fresh dough and bake your own pita over an open fire. Savor the warm, fresh bread dipped in authentic olive oil with aromatic hyssop seasoning for a taste of the past.
Building with cob is a unique, hands-on experience. This important building material has been used for thousands of years in the construction of homes, building ovens, and waterproofing roofs. Today, cob is used in modern, ecological housing due to its strength and insulating properties.
Over the past hundred years or so, tractors have revolutionised farming. But for thousands of years, wheat was planted and harvested by hand. Families would work together to reap the wheat from the fields, then thresh and winnow, and store the wheat kernels to be ground into flour.
In the springtime, we give you the unique opportunity to not only witness an authentic wheat harvest, but to take part in it yourselves. Gain insight into the cultures that developed around this momentous and happy time.
From the end of June to the end of August, participate in a traditional winemaking experience at the old-fashioned grape press. Crush the grapes with cleaned, bare feet and watch the sticky juice trickle into the vat below. Collect the fresh juice, bottle it, and learn about the fermentation process. Drink the juice straight away or wait until it ages into a rich wine.
From September to late October, you can enjoy the olive oil experience where you can press olives into golden oil, using the oldest functioning press in Israel (1,600 years old!). Olive oil was a main source of export and wealth for the citizens of this village, and it is likely that the profits were used to finance the construction of the village’s majestic synagogue.
In addition, you can enjoy a special whiskey-tasting experience at the nearby Golani Whiskey distillery. Enjoy sampling some of their principal whiskeys and learn about creating state-of-the-art whiskey. A selection of their products is available at the Katzrin Village Gift Shop.
