There are 175 verses written about Jesus in the New Testament. We know of the 37 amazing miracles he performed, which are recorded in the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. We have studied the teachings of Jesus and the gospel of his disciples; we are familiar with stories. But what do we know about the people and the culture of the time?
Visits to Cana, Capernaum, Tiberius, Bethsaida, Bethlehem, and Ginosar are awe-inspiring. You can take a boat trip on the Sea of Galilee just like the disciples did. However, the question still nags: What was life really like? What were the daily customs and culture of the time? Practices surrounding the harvests, family life, work life?
What about the physical setting? What did people see as they left their homes in the mornings and tilled the fields, listened to sermons, and witnessed miracles?
Katzrin Village opens a unique window in time for you to reflect on the life and customs of bygone times. As a living history site, we at Katzrin Village, promote hands-on learning and experience, beyond listening and observing.
The visit to the ancient Israeli home, will provides deeper insight into the story of lowering the crippled man through the dug-out roof and the miracle of healing that followed.
The building with cob activity teaches about the correct consistency for cob, a building material which was vital in the construction of houses and ovens. Learn about its applications and build an oven or fashion a keepsake to take home with you.
Learn about the fermentation process and participate in the winemaking process at the old-fashioned wine press. Crush the grapes in the old, traditional way, letting the sweet, sticky juice gather below, to be bottled as grape juice or fermented into wine. Leave with your own small bottle of grape juice.
Pita-baking is a favorite activity at Katzrin Village. Did you know that the loaves of bread in the miracle of the loaves and the fish refers to pita bread? Visit the Village Bakery and make your own dough. Roll it out and bake over an open fire. Enjoy fresh, warm bread with authentic olive oil and fragrant hyssop seasoning.
Come as a family or as a group with your local church. Church tours to Katzrin Village are very popular due to the uniqueness of the site. Not only do the activities offer a greater understanding of the past, but an informative Bible tour would gain new insights into the passages read on a regular basis.
